St Andrews Table Tennis Club welcomes everyone of all standards from beginner to international and of all ages from young to ancient. We have five teams which compete in the local Dundee and District Table Tennis Association league and cup competitions.
This is a club for all members of the local community. University students are also very welcome to join us. We occasionally play matches against the student club at the University of St Andrews and, of course, we let them win a few points.
The club’s aim is to provide coaching and competition for those who wish to take part in table tennis in and around St Andrews. The club is 50 years old and has witnessed a resurgence in membership in recent years.
The club’s home venue is Victory Memorial Hall (VMH) in Market Street, St Andrews. League fixtures are played on Monday evenings between September and March. The hall is also hired for members’ close-season practice.
UNFORTUNATELY YOUTH COACHING WILL NOT RUN DURING SEASON 2018/19. HOWEVER WE HOPE TO RESUME IN SEPTEMBER 2019. If you are interested in the youth coaching, please get in touch in the first instance through the ‘contact us’ button (above). We can pass on to you information about alternative possibilities and/or keep names on a waiting list.
The club also has informal coaching for adult beginners and ‘returners’. The adult group known as “The Rascals” is led by Elaine Forbes. It meets throughout most of the year, including much of the summer, at least once per week. Modest fees are charged for these sessions. Please note that all practice and coaching dates and times may be varied to reflect demand. For more information about coaching, please get in touch in the first instance through the ‘contact us’ button (above).
Most members join the club as league players. We have five teams that compete in the Dundee and District (DDTTA) league. Adult league players pay a membership fee of around £120 per year, including DDTTA and Table Tennis Scotland affiliation fees. Lower fees apply to juniors and students. Anyone wishing to become a league player must notify the club secretary, preferably in writing, using the contact form on our website. You will be added to a waiting list and, as places become available in teams, considered on a first come, first served basis. League players need to be committed to fulfilling their teams’ fixtures throughout the season. Existing league players will be happy to advise newcomers about the level of play required to enjoy an occasional win in the league!
We also have a small number of non-league player members who pay a fee of £20 per year. Non-league player members are able to participate in the club’s competitions and attend club practice nights at the VM Hall. They may also be involved in the running of the club and assist with coaching.
The club has procedures, including a Selection Sub-Committee, if required, to help decide the allocation of players to teams.
